Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company was established as a Public Limited Company in 1968 with its headquarters in East Azerbaijan, Tabriz. As an industrial group holding 12 subordinate companies, ITMCO is the biggest of its type in the entire Middle East.
In 1969, the company took the first step of its productions by assembling Romanian U650 and U651 tractors. Eight years after producing Romanian tractors, Massey Ferguson of England, based on a new agreement with ITMCO for the re-evaluation of local market requirements, began assembling its MF tractors in 1976. Finally, in 1978, the company’s first MF tractors broke into market in four specific models including: MF 135-45 HP, MF 165-62HP, MF185-72HP and MF 295-92HP.Not to mention that MF 399(4WD, 2WD) as a heavy tractor was introduced, in 1994, to meet the expectations of the market and take a new step in the diversification of productions.
Between the years 1988 and 1993, the mother company decided to optimize the use of available resources and facilities by focusing its attention mainly on producing tractors rather than developing lateral products. As a result, other subordinated companies like Foundry, Engine, Industrial Vehicles and Industrial Services were separated from the mother company based on this new policy. Since the company was so much interested to expand the scope of its cooperation with other industries and utilize the existing capacities in the country, in an attempt acquired Commerce and After Sales Services Company in 1993 and Urmia Tractor Company in 2003.In this respect, to complete the chain of its domestic automobile production, a new facility was established between the years 1995 and 1998 to design and produce convertible agricultural machinery and light trucks with proper specifications for carrying agricultural products and performing urban services.
Between the years 2003 and 2009, the company established Kurdistan Tractor Co., Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Azerbaijan Diesl Manufacturing Co., Veniran Tractor Co. in Venezuela, Ugiran Tractor Co. in Uganda and Tajiran Tractor Co. in Tajikistan. In 2002, the designing and production of new tractors with ITM800 started. Subsequently, ITM 299 and 240 came to mass production in Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company right in 2008.
In 2010, Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company converted to a holding company and continued its activities in the form of an industrial group. Between the years 2010 and 2011, some new models like ITM 475, 1000, 1050, 285 New (all models produced both in 2WD and 4WD form) were designed, and came to a mass production in 2012.
